MARIA'S MUSINGS

On Christmas day I experienced something that shook me to the core, leaving me sad, angry, and “sommer omgekrap”. To help me sort out my emotions, I wrote a blog about it and posted it here.  I felt so much better for putting in words what was churning around in my brain.

However, when my husband read it, he pointed out that, yes, it was a therapeutic exercise and no doubt helpful to me, but it came across as being unkind. I re-read the piece as if for the first time and realised how potentially hurtful and harmful it could be despite its humorous tone. I decided to remove it because I realised that not everything that needs to be written needs to be shared.

Words are powerful and mean different things to different people in different situations.  They start off as thoughts, are shaped by emotions and then manifest as a sword to harm, or a balm to heal.  The T.H.I.N.K. principle can be helpful when deciding whether to say or write something:

T - is it true?

H - is it helpful?

I - is it inspirational?

N - is it necessary?

K - is it kind?

I hope that the words I’ve written here tick all five boxes!
