MARIA'S MUSINGS
I’m done grabbing any available scrap of paper to jot down the fleeting ideas that pop into my head at inconvenient times. I now carry my pink Moleskine notebook around with me wherever I go. If I don’t immediately pin them down, those shiny gems and pearls of inspiration vanish like that “bright elusive butterfly” from the 60s hit song by Bob Lind. Anyone remember it?
As an artist I constantly chase that elusive, indefinable quality in my work and try to pin it down in some tangible form. Sadly, it always falls just short of the ideal. Ah, the elusive nature of art.
Many people chase the elusive thing called happiness. To be happy is a wonderful feeling but can be short-lived. Maybe it’s better to strive to live a joyful life. In Trevor Hudson’s book “Seeking Serenity” he points out while joy is most certainly a gift God gives us, it is also a lifestyle we can cultivate, mindfully turning everyday occasions into joyful ones filled with gratitude. The best way to live a joyful life is to spread the joy around.
