This pastel drawing is of Annie who taught me the true meaning of compassion and love for others. Loving others is not always easy but fortunately God has given us a way.

 

First of all, God says we must love Him with our whole being because He loves us more than we can ever fathom.  How to love God? Get to know Him.

Secondly, we need to love ourselves, not in a vain, indulgent or “selfie-obsessed” way, but by treating ourselves with respect and kindness on all levels. It is possible to love ourselves because we are worthy of receiving love, warts and all. How to love ourselves? Get to know ourselves as God’s precious creation. 

“If God can love me, so can I”.

 

Thirdly, we need to love others as we love ourselves.  If we don’t love ourselves, we cannot love others.  So, as we treat ourselves with respect and kindness, we must treat others in the same way regardless of the how they treat us. How to love others? Get to know them by listening to their stories; showing compassion; praying for them (especially if they are “difficult"); and seeing them as God’s precious creations.
