Re-fresh: “to make fresh again, energise”

It’s a fresh year and we’ve made a fresh start.  Even though we might not feel so fresh after the first few weeks of 2024, let’s press that “refresh” button and endeavour to drink more water, get more sleep, exercise a bit (not too much!), and stop often to smell the flowers.

Experts in the field of olfactory therapy (yes, it’s a real job) recommend we make a habit of sniffing pleasant scents for an immediate uplifting experience. There’s nothing quite like the refreshing smell of rain on a hot tar road, jasmine-scented breezes, and clean laundry.

I realised my sense of smell was slowly returning after a bout of Covid, when I unexpectedly caught a whiff of the heavenly aroma of John’s home-baked bread, fresh out the oven. What smell has that instant mood-enhancing effect on you?

Fresh Flowers for You

Irises and sweet peas, fresh off the easel for you to enjoy!

For centuries, these two flowers have been used as the basis of perfumes and oils.  Iris has “a powdery and slightly earthy scent profile with subtle undertones of spice and musk. Some might even have notes of violet, green leaves, or a hint of liquorice.”  Sweet peas have an “airy sweetness, somewhere between orange blossom and hyacinth, with a hint of rose – a lush, cheery bouquet.”

You can view these and other artworks for sale HERE.

I dedicate this delightful Ellie Holcomb song to the January babies: Heather, Michelle D, Richard, Janet, Bev B, Letetia, Colleen, Lorraine, Judy, Cheryl H and Donna. If 2024 looks a little uncertain and maybe a bit scary, “don't you worry ‘cause you’re in the hands of the God who made everything”!
